Licensed to practice law for more than 40 years and fluent in Spanish, Jan Pederson is a shareholder with Maggio Kattar Nahajzer + Alexander PC ( "Maggio + Kattar"). Ms. Pederson graduated with honors from the University of Washington with her Bachelor of Arts in economics. She then went on to complete her Juris Doctor at Howard University School of Law before obtaining her license in 1975.

Among her many clients, Ms. Pederson has represented television networks, celebrities, renowned physicians, Fortune 500 companies and health care providers. She has focused in particular on the J-1 visa program for foreign doctors, and she has been responsible for legislation to help foreign physicians. In 1997, she was honored for her excellence in the advancement of the field of immigration law by the Edith Lowenstein Memorial Award.

Ms. Pederson has received significant recognition for her work. Ms. Pederson has appeared on ABC News and CNN, and has been interviewed by several leading newspapers. She founded and edits J-1 Physician News, which includes updates on topics of interest to J-1 physicians, and she lectures on these topics both in the U.S. and abroad.

Ms. Pederson has been heavily active in the American Immigration Lawyers Association and for 18 years, she was president of its Washington, D.C., chapter. During that time, she was chosen to serve as a director of its national Board of Governors. For years, she has served in various capacities on several of the organization's committees.
